New Harmonies


On September 25, New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music opens for a six-week stay in Mars Hill, home to the “Minstrel of the Appalachians” Bascom Lamar Lunsford. Festivities at Mars Hill College include traditional Appalachian dance, Rob Amberg photo display, Pickin’ and Poetry on the Porch, and Searching for the Real Thing in America Music, a Humanities Council Teachers Institute seminar

A collaboration between the Smithsonian Institute and the North Carolina Humanities Council.

Mountain Area Child and Family Center/ Black Mountain


The first Annual mini-golf event was a great success, and enjoyed by adults and children alike. RiverDance sponsored one hole, and donated a weekend stay. When Callie is not with guests, she has infants and toddlers in her lap at the center.

Annual Art and Craft Show

The fourth annual Art in Autumn Outdoor Arts and Crafts Festival takes place Saturday, September 18, 2010, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Weaverville, North Carolina. Sponsored by the Weaverville Business Association, the festival features over 100 juried artists and craftspeople, as well as an exciting array of food and live music. In recent years, Weaverville has established itself as a culturally rich destination point. It has earned a reputation for its quaint small town atmosphere, artistic spirit, and distinctive shops. All are welcome. Admission is free.
